Your First Hip Hop Class
Everything you need to know before you arrive.
Starting somewhere new can bring excitement and a few nerves. This guide makes the whole experience Simple, Easy and Convenient so your child can walk through the doors knowing exactly what to expect.
There Is Nothing Your Child Needs to Know Before They Start.
Your child's first Hip Hop class is about experiencing DFC, meeting their teacher, getting comfortable in the studio and having a go.
They do not need to know choreography. They do not need previous dance experience. They do not need to be naturally confident.
They simply need to come along ready to listen, learn and try.
Your child's first class is not an audition. Nobody is expecting perfection. Taking the first step and walking through the door is already something to be proud of.
Four Things to Make Your First Visit Simple.
Arrive 5 to 10 Minutes Early
Give yourself a little extra time to arrive, check in, meet Tanya and allow your child to become familiar with the studio before class begins.
Bring a Water Bottle
Hip Hop is active. Bring a clearly named water bottle so your child can easily have a drink when needed.
Wear Comfortable Clothes
Activewear your child can comfortably bend, stretch, jump and move in is perfect for a trial class.
Tie Long Hair Back
Keeping long hair secured away from the face makes moving, learning and participating much easier.
Keep It Comfortable.
There is no need to buy special dance clothing before your child's trial.
Choose clothes they already own that make it easy to move freely.
- T-shirt or comfortable top
- Shorts
- Leggings
- Trackpants
- Comfortable activewear
Comfort Over Fashion
Your child will be moving in lots of different ways, including Hip Hop foundations, choreography and age-appropriate Breaking and Tricking progressions.
Clothing should allow them to bend, stretch, move their legs freely and feel comfortable while learning.
For a first class, Simple is best.
What Shoes Should My Child Wear?

Every Child Starts Differently.
Some children walk through the door ready to jump straight in.
Others need a little more time to watch, understand the environment and build confidence.
Both are completely valid ways to begin.
Your child's first class is not about being the best dancer in the room. It is about taking that first step, trying something new and beginning to discover what they can do.
At DFC, effort and willingness to try matter.Parents Often Ask...
Does my child need previous dance experience?
What if my child feels nervous?
What if my child does not know anyone?
What if my child cannot do a move?
Does DFC teach Breaking and Tricking?
What happens after the trial?
What to Ask After Class.
One of the easiest ways to support your child's confidence is to focus on their experience and effort rather than whether everything went perfectly.
A Simple question can help children recognise their own progress and talk positively about what they experienced.
Try asking:
Where to Go
Your class is held at Northreach Baptist Church Hall in Kirwan.

Kirwan QLD 4817
Enter via the second driveway, drive past the mini buses, park near the basketball hoops and follow the DFC signs to the hall.
Allow a few extra minutes on your first visit so getting settled feels Easy and stress-free.
Do Not Rush the Arrival.
Being hurried can make a new environment feel much bigger than it needs to.
Arriving 5 to 10 minutes early gives your child time to see where they are, meet Tanya and mentally switch from the rest of their day into dance class.
That Simple buffer can make the first experience much easier.
