Welcome to DFC

There Is Nothing Your Child Needs to Know Before They Start.

Your child's first Hip Hop class is about experiencing DFC, meeting their teacher, getting comfortable in the studio and having a go.

They do not need to know choreography. They do not need previous dance experience. They do not need to be naturally confident.

They simply need to come along ready to listen, learn and try.

The most important thing to remember:

Your child's first class is not an audition. Nobody is expecting perfection. Taking the first step and walking through the door is already something to be proud of.

Before You Arrive

Four Things to Make Your First Visit Simple.

01

Arrive 5 to 10 Minutes Early

Give yourself a little extra time to arrive, check in, meet Tanya and allow your child to become familiar with the studio before class begins.

02

Bring a Water Bottle

Hip Hop is active. Bring a clearly named water bottle so your child can easily have a drink when needed.

03

Wear Comfortable Clothes

Activewear your child can comfortably bend, stretch, jump and move in is perfect for a trial class.

04

Tie Long Hair Back

Keeping long hair secured away from the face makes moving, learning and participating much easier.

What to Wear

Keep It Comfortable.

There is no need to buy special dance clothing before your child's trial.

Choose clothes they already own that make it easy to move freely.

  • T-shirt or comfortable top
  • Shorts
  • Leggings
  • Trackpants
  • Comfortable activewear

Comfort Over Fashion

Your child will be moving in lots of different ways, including Hip Hop foundations, choreography and age-appropriate Breaking and Tricking progressions.

Clothing should allow them to bend, stretch, move their legs freely and feel comfortable while learning.

For a first class, Simple is best.

Footwear

What Shoes Should My Child Wear?

Comfortable sneakers are the easiest option for your child's first Hip Hop class.

BEST

Sneakers

Comfortable sneakers that fit securely and allow your child to move easily are ideal.

ALSO FINE

Your First Class Promise

Every Child Starts Differently.

Some children walk through the door ready to jump straight in.

Others need a little more time to watch, understand the environment and build confidence.

Both are completely valid ways to begin.

Your child's first class is not about being the best dancer in the room. It is about taking that first step, trying something new and beginning to discover what they can do.

At DFC, effort and willingness to try matter.
First Class Questions

Parents Often Ask...

Does my child need previous dance experience?
No. DFC Hip Hop classes are beginner-friendly and students are taught step-by-step from strong foundations.
What if my child feels nervous?
Feeling nervous when starting somewhere new is normal. Arriving 5 to 10 minutes early gives your child time to meet Tanya, see the studio and settle before class begins. There is no expectation for them to know anything before they start.
What if my child does not know anyone?
That is completely fine. Students regularly begin classes without already knowing other dancers. Part of the DFC experience is learning alongside others and gradually building connections.
What if my child cannot do a move?
They are not expected to get everything immediately. Learning to practise, make mistakes and try again is an important part of Hip Hop training and the DFC Method.
Does DFC teach Breaking and Tricking?
Yes. Breaking foundations and Tricking are included within the Hip Hop program and are taught through safe, age-appropriate progressions based on student ability.
What happens after the trial?
If DFC feels like the right fit, the next step is choosing the Hip Hop membership that suits your family and beginning consistent weekly training.
Supporting Confidence

What to Ask After Class.

One of the easiest ways to support your child's confidence is to focus on their experience and effort rather than whether everything went perfectly.

A Simple question can help children recognise their own progress and talk positively about what they experienced.

Try asking:

What was your favourite part today?
What new thing did you try?
What are you proud of?
Was there anything that felt challenging?
What are you excited to try next time?
